Jasmine Marie Dawkins Jones affectionately known as “Jazz” made her transition on Sunday, August 6, 2017 to be with the Lord.
Celebration of Life services will be held 1:30 pm Friday August 11, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Delvick McKay officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 7 pm to 9 pm Thursday August 10, 2017 at the funeral home.
Jasmine Marie Dawkins Jones was born January 31, 1956 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Jasper and Veneria Dawkins, Sr.
At an early age, Jasmine joined Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Phenix City, AL where she remained a faithful member until she entered college. She was a current active member of the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland, AL.
Jasmine graduated from Hardaway High School Columbus, GA in 1974. She attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN where she became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She later transferred to Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL where she graduated in 1979 with a degree in Physical Therapy. Jasmine was employed as a licensed Physical Therapist at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Dothan, AL for 31 years until her retirement. Jasmine was a joy to her patients as a physical therapist and meticulous in their care.
Jasmine was married to her best friend, ride or die, and love of her life, Elston L. Jones for 35 years.
She will always be loved, honored, and remembered by her devoted husband Elston Jones and loving daughter Jaevyn Jones; one brother Jasper Dawkins Jr. College Park, GA; one godson Ivan Lampkin Dothan, AL; two uncles: Dr. Shelley (Doris) Stewart Birmingham, AL and Walter (Corrine) Dawkins Sr. Fort Gaines GA; one aunt: Mildred (Julius) Stroud Forsyth, GA children and grands; four brother in laws: Paul (Johnnie Mae) Jones Greenville, AL, Kenneth (Jean) Jones, Bertram (Tandra) Jones Montgomery, AL, and Hanford (Brenda) Jones Huntsville, AL; loving and devoted nieces and nephews: Kendall, Kendra, Tremaine, Micah, Lederic. Chantelle, and Courtney Jones; loving and devoted cousins: Sherold (Turushia) Thomas Seattle, WA, Sharon (Charles) Long, Sharonda (Eric) Fancher Birmingham, AL, Lillian Dawkins, Connie Daniels, Patricia (Charles) Buck sons and grands, Walter Dawkins Jr. Fort Gaines, GA children and grands, Kate (Charles) Ward and daughter Americus, GA, Sheila Vega Atlanta, GA children; special family Eleanor Dawkins Lenoir, NC, Nakurur Harvey Atlanta, GA; devoted friend and godsister Julia (Larry and Jackie) Whitehurst family Dothan, AL; special friends: Earl and Sandra (FeFe) Marshall Austin, TX; two childhood friends: Linda (Arthur) Denson and Angela (Leonard) Gates Phenix City, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
