Jay J. Enfinger
Jay J. Enfinger, a longtime resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with his son, Rev. Thomas Jay Enfinger and Brother Jimmy Helms officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Cowarts Baptist Church Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.
“Mr. Jay”, as he was affectionately called, was born February 25, 1930 in Houston County. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army. He resided in Georgia for a few years and then returned to Houston County where he lived the remainder of his life. In the early 70’s he began operating Stough Street Grocery in Dothan which he operated for over 40 years.
Mr. Enfinger is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Jay and Maude Inez Watford Enfinger, his wife, Eleanor Enfinger and a step-daughter, Brenda Neely.
He is survived by 8 children, Carolyn Reneer of California, Michael (Tammy) Enfinger of Webb, Thomas “Jay” (Gwen)
Enfinger of Chattahoochee, FL, Reginald (Melanie) Enfinger of Miami, FL, Angela (Chris) Brown of Milton, FL, Faith (Mike) Gonzales of Pansey, Hope (Danny) Henderson of Banks, AL and Dean Enfinger of Dothan; 3 step-children, Sammy Hawkins of Dothan, Jean (Buford) Kimbrel of Headland and Doug Corbin of Dothan; five generations of grandchildren also survive.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
