Mr. JD Thames of Chancellor passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness.  He was 82.


 


Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Asbury Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Proffitt and Rev. Joel Snell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m.


 


JD was born December 30, 1934, in Coffee County.  He worked as an aircraft mechanic at Ft. Rucker prior to his retirement.  He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church.


 


He was preceded in death by his parents, JO and Annie Pearl Thames; brother, JR Thames; and sister, Vernell Thames.


 


Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Thames of Chancellor; daughter, Gwen Cooper (Tony) of Enterprise; sister, Sara Hughes (Bobby) of Enterprise; two grandchildren: Ashlee Garner (Clay) of Enterprise and Chris Cooper of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren: Taylor Rester and Ella Grace Garner, both of Enterprise, sister and brother in laws: Jimmie Stinson, Evelyn Johnson (James), and Mary Ann Anderson (Durl) all of Chancellor; one nephew: Ricky Hughes (Kim), and two nieces: Phyllis Griswold (Reggie), and Beth Trawick (Trent) and several special great nieces and nephews.
