Mrs. McCord was born April 9, 1936, in Dothan, Alabama to Mike and Essie D. Kornegay Cook and grew up in Taylor. Anyone who knew Jean McCord knew she loved to shop as she was always dressed to a t. She loved her handbags, shoes, jewelry, and all things that sparkled and shined. She never missed a hair appointment and ensured each strand of beautiful white hair was tucked perfectly into place and her lips were always painted her signature bright red.

Mrs. Jean also loved to play in the dirt, digging and planting flowers. Outside was one of her favorite places to be. Her gardens were always full of color, vibrant and thriving.

The most important thing we know about Mrs. Jean is that she loved the Lord. She always enjoyed spending time with the Joyful Christians and looked forward to teaching Vacation Bible School every summer. Her faith was radiant, and she put her complete trust in Him. This faith gives us peace that this goodbye is only temporary.

Survivors include a son, Clay McCord (Renee) of Rehobeth; a daughter, Donna Cumbest (Jeff) of Mobile; four grandchildren, Dustin McCord (Kelly) of Cottonwood, Rustin McCord (Jessica) of Wicksburg, Hannah Kirkland (Lance) of Rehobeth, Clayton Cumbest of Mobile; six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Gunnar McCord, Ben and Blakely McCord, Blair Kirkland, Ivey Kirkland; one sister, Sue Long (Bobby) of Dothan; three nieces, Cynthia Johnson of Pensacola, FL, Kelly Middleton of Dothan, Paula Middleton of Las Vegas, NV; two special friends, Nancy Tolar, and Becky Givens.
