JEAN KAUFMAN SOWELL
HEADLAND.… Jean Kaufman Sowell, a resident Headland, passed away Thursday night, May 7, 2020, at her home. She was 68.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with the Reverend Misty Barrett officiating. The family will receive friends in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines set forth, from 4:30 until 6:00 P.M., Tuesday before the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Sowell was born in Reston, Wyoming. She has lived for the past forty years in Headland, Alabama. She taught for thirty years at Headland High School, where she has so many students that loved her. She was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thomas Kaufman; her sister, Nina Ruth Kaufman; her step-brother, Charles Ray Kaufman.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughters, Lori Sowell Manley of Huntsville, AL, and Suzie Sowell Hallmark (David) of Dallas, GA; her mother, Eva Combs Long; her grandchildren, Kindell Bell, Madison Bell, and Dawson Hallmark; her brothers, David Lee Kaufman (Deeann) of Charleston, SC, and James Edward Kaufman (Renee) of Haleyville, AL, her step-brothers and step-sisters, Debra West of Ft. Worth, TX, Annette Vinson (Gerald) of Dothan, Al, Terri Shaw of Ft. Worth, TX, Kathy Long of Dothan, AL, and Mike Long of Shreveport, LA.
