JEAN  MAYO  SIMONS


 


ABBEVILLLE. . .Jean Mayo Simons, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday, February 16, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. She was 81.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, February 18, 2012, in the Shorterville Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P. M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Mrs. Simons was born in Atlanta and moved with her family to Shorterville as a child. She formerly lived in Jackson, Michigan before moving to Abbeville in 1980. Mrs. Simons was affiliated with Lakeside Christian Fellowship. She was retired, due to disability, from the Henry County Nursing Home, as a nurses aide. Mrs. Simons was preceded in death by two sisters, Bobbie Starling and Marjorie Mayo.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Donald Wayne Simons, Abbeville; three daughters, Brenda Hunter, Indiana; Donna Buxton (Jeff), Spring City, TN; Charlotte McCullough (Donald), Abbeville; five sons, William Carey Dennis (Linda), Danville, VA; Steve Simons, Russell Simons, Donald Ray Simons and Keith Simons, all of Dothan; two sisters, Peggy Barrentine, Athens, GA; Mary Lou Sauls (David), Shorterville; a brother, William Thomas Mayo (Louette), Headland; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
