BLUE SPRINGS…Jean Scott Key, a resident of Blue Springs, died Friday morning, June 25, 2021, in Wesley Place on Honeysuckle following an extended illness. She was 86.


   Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021, in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery with a eulogy to be given by a grandson, Brandon Wells. Casual clothing is welcome. The family will receive friends following the graveside services in the Peniel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


   To honor their mother’s request, there will be no visitation and please omit flowers. Donations are welcome in her memory to the Peniel Church Cemetery Fund, 2710 County Road 41, Skipperville, AL 36374.


   Marian Jean Key was born in Barbour County to Wiley J. Scott and Fannie B. Scott on June 6, 1935. She was raised in Blue Springs and attended Blue Springs High School. Jean was married to Roy Key for 66 years and they had four children, Linda Jean, Cheryl Ann, Lisa Gayle and Ricky Allen.


   Jean worked at WestPoint Pepperell in Abbeville, Alabama for more than forty years before retiring. During that time, she also baked and sold many delicious cakes. Her pound cake was a favorite choice for many. She and Roy planted a vegetable garden for many years, so she could provide vegetables for her family. Her children and grandchildren looked forward to the many Sunday dinners she would make, which always included something that was a favorite of each one. Her hobbies included raising beautiful flowers, making beautiful quilts, puzzles and word games and watching sports. She was a fan of Auburn, Alabama and Georgia to support her grandchildren. She loved watching the Atlanta Braves.


   Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Wiley and Fannie B. Scott, her husband, Roy Key, and a sister, Faye Matthews.     


   Jean leaves many memories to her children and their families, including daughters, Linda Shirah (Jeral Carpenter), Blue Springs, AL; Cheryl Heifner, Blue Springs; and Lisa Bruner, Dothan; her son, Ricky Key, Dothan; her sister, Sandra Helms (Lewie), Headland; her grandchildren, Keith Shirah, Amy Shirah Gulledge (Chad), Lara Shirah Tyler (Ty), Matthew Heifner, Brandon Wells (Destiny), Andrea Cristiano and Nathan Key; her great-grandchildren, Logan Shirah, Kalei Shirah, Hunter Gulledge, Dylan Gulledge, Abigail Gulledge, Caleb Tyler (Fran), Brody Tyler, Josie Tyler, Brayden Heifner, Walker Wells, Chloe Key and Otter Key; great-great-grandchildren, Krislee Shirah, Charlotte “Charlie” Tyler and Alivia Faulk; a special nephew, Jerry Tew, and a special cousin, Gail Tew.


   Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Wells, Matt Heifner, Nathan Key, Logan Shirah, Chad Gulledge, Ty Tyler, Caleb Tyler and Dylan Gulledge. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Gulledge, Brody Tyler and the remaining great-grandchildren.


   The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. The Lord gives strength to His people – Psalm 29:11.
