SHORTERVILLE. . .Jeanette Holmes Barnes, a resident of Shorterville, died Sunday morning, October 26, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 66.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 28, 2014, in the Adoniram Baptist Church with Reverend Otis Derrah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adoniram Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Tina Barnes, 3475 County Road 71, Shorterville, AL 36373.
Jeanette Barnes was a lifelong resident of Henry County. She was preceded in death by her father, Earnest William Holmes. In early years, Jeanette was employed by West Point Pepperell in Abbeville and later became a homemaker. She was involved in the operation of the W & E Trucking Co., Billy Barnes Logging Company, and Barnes Farms. In later years, she felt the calling to become a caregiver for the elderly. She retired after many years of caregiving in January 2014 because of health issues. Jeanette was a devoted member of the Adoniram Baptist Church and the Adoniram Ladies Prayer Group. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Martin S. (Marty) Barnes (Jenna), Shorterville; William H. “Bo” Barnes (Beth), Abbeville; and Timothy D. “AJ” Barnes (Katie), Shorterville; her mother, Pearl Holmes Woodham, a resident of the Ft. Gaines HealthCare, formerly of Abbeville; two brothers, Robert Holmes (Jean), and Benny Holmes, all of Abbeville; five grandchildren, David Barnes, Hadley Barnes, Jake Evans, Coleman Evans, and Dakota Evans; two half-sisters, Sherry Holmes Brown and Tammy Holmes Walker, both of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be David Barnes, Justin Holmes, Jake Evans, Kent Holmes, Keith Holmes, and Kenny Holmes. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Adoniram Ladies Prayer Group.
