Jeannine Juliette Irby of Enterprise, AL passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at her home. She was 89.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until service time.
Jeannine was a survivor of the German Occupation of France during WW2, during which she was a child. She met and married Almous S. Irby (Sr) while he was stationed (USAF) in post-war France during the 1950’s. Some time after she emigrated with her husband to the United States. She initially lived in Syracuse, NY, where she and Almous started their family and ran the “A Votre Service” day care center for many years. She then moved with the family to New Jersey, and then to Enterprise, AL, where she spent her last several years. She will be remembered as one of the Matriarchs of the family and is credited with the idea of the first Burke-Irby family reunion in 1974. She was a devoted wife to her husband for many decades of marriage. She created a sheltering and loved environment for many that extended beyond immediate family. Her life touched countless people, and she will not be forgotten.
Mrs. Irby was preceded in death by her husband, Almous Irby.
Survivors include her daughters, Annie Hunt, Clarkesville, GA and Miriam Degaret, Paris, France; sons, Almous Irby, Jr. (Aurea), Enterprise, AL, Ellis W. Brown, Jr., Enterprise, AL, Pierre Degaret, Paris, France; granddaughters, Courtney Wreh (Benedict), Clarkesville, GA, Asia Hunt, Marietta, GA, Aurea Tate, Enterprise, AL, Estefania Tate, Land O’ Lakes, FL; grandsons, Fernando Hunt II, Japan, Rudy Degaret, Paris, France; 6 great-grandchildren.
