ABBEVILLE. . . Jeffery Allen “Jeff” Herring, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday morning, March 23, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 63.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, March 25, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Carol Johns, 206 Briarhill Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Jeff Herring was born and reared in the Brown’s Crossroads Community of Henry County, son of the late James Rufus “Pete” Herring and Euldine Williams Herring. He lived in the Abbeville area all his life and was a 1972 graduate of Abbeville High School. Jeff was retired, due to disability, as a Lock Operator, from the Walter F. George Lock & Dam at Ft. Gaines. He was a member of the Union Free Will Baptist Church. Jeff was preceded in death by his wife, Claudette Herring, and a brother, Roger Herring.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Heather Blalock (Josh), and Jennifer Simmons (Dwight), all of Headland; two brothers, Mickey Herring, Dothan, and Joseph P. “Bodie” Herring (Jackie), Eufaula; a sister-in-law, Sheila Herring, Abbeville; four grandchildren, Brody and Jase Blalock, and Hunter and Drake Simmons; several nieces and nephews.
