COLUMBIA. . .Jennie Lou Smothers Crew, a resident of Columbia, died early Monday morning, July 16, 2018, in Noland Hospital Dothan. She was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Kevin Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Jennie Crew was born and reared in Dale County, near Echo, daughter of the late Mason Byrd Smothers and Cleo McKee Smothers. She was retired from U.S. Civil Service at Fort Rucker as a secretary. Jennie lived in various locations while her husband served in the U.S. Army and also lived in Ozark before moving to Columbia in 2004. She was of the Baptist faith. Jennie was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Summersett Smith; a brother, Byrd Smothers, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Krysten Templeton.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Botney Crew, Hilton, Georgia; Terri Mason (Jeff), Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Lisa Chandler (Rick), Columbia; a brother, Norman Smothers, Hilton, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Sandy Koch (Mike), Geoffrey Crew (Janice), Sean Smith (Brandi), Brian Smith (Samantha), Tabitha Templeton (Chris), Sara Griffin (Tommy), Tasha Cook, and Zac Mason; and several great-grandchildren.
