Midland City. . .Jerald Wayne Long, loving daddy, papa, and friend was called home Wednesday, January 30, 2019, in Birmingham. He was 78.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24th, 2019 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend John Thomas officiating and eulogies to be given by family members and friends. His family will celebrate his life with a visitation, Sunday February 24th, 2019 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Long was born February 13, 1940 and was raised in Midland City, AL where he played football and graduated in 1958. Mr. Long served his country six years in the National Guard. Mr. Long was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and spent his final years enduring his time with his daughter and grandchildren. Mr. Long enjoyed watching Lauren and Paul Joseph participate in their school sports and activities. Mr. Long loved to fish and was an avid Auburn football and Atlanta Braves fan.
Mr. Long is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Long and Inez Green Long, his two brothers, Billy Long and Tommy Long, a sister, Betty Long Dean, and a niece, Julie Long. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Long Thompson (Jason Crook) and two grandchildren, Lauren and Paul Joseph Thompson, a brother Kenny Long (Bridget Lee Long), two sisters-in-law Rosie Long and Peggy Long, several nieces and nephews, Brandy Long Baker-Jensen, Korey Long, James Dean, Kathy Dean Johnson, Don Long, Christy Long Camp, Bill Long, Katrina Long Moore and the family cat, Coco Chanel, and many more cousins and wonderful friends.
