Jerone Smith Miller Holwerda, a resident of Headland, died Monday night, February 23, 2015, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 73.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Reverend Mike Wehner officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church Worship Center.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility “Activities Fund”, 212 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Holwerda was born and reared in Henry County and lived in Headland all her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland where she was a former member of the Chancel Choir and taught a Sunday School class. In earlier years, she actively participated in the Burdeshaw-Solomon Senior Center. Mrs. Holwerda was a retired employee of the Southeast Alabama Gas District. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Everett (Dub) Smith and Lois Lingo Smith, her husband, Edward Holwerda, and the father of her children, Jerry Miller .
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Yulonda Miller Nesiba (Bruce), Headland; a son, Mickey Miller (Leta), Simi Valley, CA; a sister, Janice Marcum (Doug), Headland; four brothers, Donald E. Smith (Carlotta), Gary L. Smith (Pat), Joseph H. Smith (Shirley), and Teddy Smith (Vicki), all of Headland; four grandchildren, Patrick Nesiba (Emily), Christopher Nesiba (Gabby), Jordan Miller and Blaine Miller; two great-grandchildren, Ava Jewel Nesiba and Gracelynn Nesiba.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Donald E. Smith, Gary L. Smith, Joseph H. Smith, Scott Marcum, Donnie Watford and Josh Smith.
