Jerrell Dee McWaters

Jerry's early life on the farm instilled in him a love for horses, which he often rode to school, and a deep affection for dogs. His distaste for picking cotton led to a pivotal decision to leave his cotton sack in the field and hitchhike to California, setting the stage for a life full of excitement and unexpected turns.

After graduating from Coffee Springs High School in 1956, Jerry enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served as an airborne radar controller in Okinawa. His military service honed his discipline and his ability to think on his feet, qualities that would serve him well in his future endeavors. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry's thirst for challenge led him to Pinkerton's National Detective Agency in Dallas, Texas. His sharp mind and leadership skills quickly propelled him to become the youngest investigative manager at Pinkerton's 4th largest office in Los Angeles by the age of 26.

In 1967, Jerry embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, starting his own private detective agency in Beverly Hills, California. His firm offered exclusive services, from limousine and lear jet transportation to bodyguard and escort services for many of Hollywood's elite. Jerry's life during this period was a whirlwind of excitement and glamour, as he worked alongside the stars and lived the fast-paced life he had once dreamed of as a boy on the farm.

Jerry's career path took a surprising turn when he decided to leave the detective world and pursue a passion for craftsmanship. He spent many years producing picture frames, owning and operating Quality Craft Frame Co., Inc., El Dorado Exports S.A., and Jerry McWaters Frame Co. His dedication to his craft was evident in the beauty and quality of his work, which decorated countless homes and galleries.

Despite his success in various ventures, Jerry never forgot his roots. He partnered with his father to raise polled Hereford cattle, connecting back to his agricultural heritage and fulfilling a shared family passion. Jerry's life was one of balance; he understood the value of hard work and the importance of maintaining a connection to the land.

Jerry was not only a devoted businessman but also a loving family man. He is survived by his sons, Jerry McWaters Raphaelson, Michael Talmadge McWaters, and Marshal Ryan McWaters; his brother, Roger McWaters (Mary); and his sisters, Lynda McWaters Pouncey and Rosalyn McWaters Ward (Edward). He was predeceased by his brother, Talmadge Wayne McWaters, and sister, Marjorie Carol McWaters Hennessee. Jerry's family was the cornerstone of his life, and his role as a father and brother was one, he cherished deeply.

Described by those who knew him as adventurous, interesting, and spirited, Jerry's legacy is one of bold choices, relentless curiosity, and an unyielding zest for life. His story serves as a testament to the power of determination and the courage to follow one's own path, no matter how unconventional it may be.

Jerry McWaters lived a life that was anything but ordinary. His journey from Coffee County to the bright lights of Los Angeles and back to the heart of Alabama is a reminder that adventure can be found in every choice we make, and that a life well-lived is one filled with passion and purpose. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to chase their dreams with the same fervor he did.
