Jerry Dawkins, a resident of Ashford, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 68.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 15, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Greg Aman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-6 pm.
Mr. Dawkins was born on March 23, 1950 in Elba, Alabama and lived the early years of his life in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He returned to Elba in 1971. Jerry moved to Dothan in 1998 and was employed with Pemco for 23 years until his retirement in 2012. He loved fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Mr. Dawkins loved to cook on the grill, to be with his family and he was known to be a great story teller that had lots of humor. He was a huge Alabama Football fan and enjoyed watching the game with his family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Lee Dawkins and his brother Roy Douglas Scarbrough. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Janet Dawkins; his sons, Chad (Emily) Dawkins, Jeremy Dawkins and Shane (Chelsea) Ingram; his daughter, Keisha Ingram; his grandchildren, Elliot Dawkins, Andie Dawkins, Jared Dawkins and Banks Ingram; his mother, Mattie Dawkins; his brothers, Billy Jack Scarbrough, Gerald (Carol) Dawkins, C P (Joan) Dawkins, Gary (Jeanette) Dawkins; his sister, Charlotte Dawkins-Fuller; his sister-in-law, Jackie Kirkland; several loving nieces and nephews.
