Jerry Lee White of Darlington, FL passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was 77 years old.
Mr. White was born in Holmes County, FL on May 25, 1944 to the late Grafton Drady and Itheria Fannie Johnson White. Jerry was the youngest of 7. He loved to play basketball, baseball, and go swimming in the creek. He enjoyed roaming in the woods with his cousins and hunting with his brothers-in-law. Saturdays were often spent cheering for his favorite team, Alabama. The love of which he passed on to his children.
Jerry was a graduate of Walton High School. He went on to receive his B.S. from Troy University and then his Master’s degree from the University of West Florida. He was the owner of White Construction for many years and worked in Education for the remaining 20+ years of his career. He started as a carpentry instructor. Toward the latter part of his educational career, he helped pilot several charter schools throughout the state for At-Risk students. During his career, he also served in both the Army National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
Anyone that knew Jerry, knew that he loved the Lord. His smile lit up the room and he was a salt of the earth kind of guy that would do anything for anyone. His greatest love was his family and he especially loved being “Papa” to his four grandchildren. He was a deacon for many years at Oak Grove Baptist Church and taught Sunday School as well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Collis, and Clinton White; three sisters, Ileta Smith, Irene Zorn, and Phyllis Roberts.
