NEWVILLE. . .Jerry M. Driver, a resident of Newville, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 89.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 5, 2024, in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. and Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2431 West Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Jerry Driver was a native of Francis, Oklahoma and was reared in Madill, Oklahoma, son of the late Owen James Driver and Rachel May Carroll Driver. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country during the Korean War era and also in the Vietnam War. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Bronze Star Medal. Jerry retired with the rank of 1st Sergeant (Master Sergeant) after twenty years service to his country. He lived in various locations in the U. S. and overseas while serving in the military. Jerry moved to the Mt. Pisgah community, near Echo, in 1974. After retirement, he was self-employed as a painting contractor. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and was an avid Oklahoma Sooner football fan. Jerry was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Sue Wood Driver; a daughter, Pam Driver Pitchford (Stan), Shalimar, FL; a son, Mike Driver (Emma), Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Stacey Hughes Phillips (Andy), Tiffany Pitchford Johnson (Andrew), and Tori Blake Pitchford; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Phillips (Justin Mettling), Makayla Phillips, Cody Phillips and a great-granddaughter on the way; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Conda Driver, Jr.
