DOTHAN. . .Jerry R. Herring, a resident of Dothan, died early Tuesday evening, July 30, 2024, at his home. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 2, 2024, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SouthernCare Hospice, 2576 Montgomery Highway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36303.
Jerry Herring was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Jackie V. Herring and Ilene Johnson Herring. He was a 1956 graduate of Headland High School. Jerry served his country in the U. S. Air Force in the late 1950’s. He attended Auburn University where he received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. While a student at Auburn, he was a member of the marching band. Jerry received a Juris Doctorate Degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. An attorney, he practiced law in Dothan for many years in the Herring Law Firm. Jerry was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and was a former member of the Dothan Country Club. He served for several years as a photographer for the Auburn football team. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hart Herring and a great-grandson, Tristan McMasters.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Geraldine Wright Herring; a daughter, Dr. Laurie Herring McCall, Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Amy Herring, Chris Herring (Silvia Ammons), Caitlin Cleckler, Matthew McCall, Jacob McCall and Connor McCall; great-grandchildren, Noah Herring, Alex McQueen and Setu Warriner.
