DOTHAN. . .Jerry Sumlar, a resident of Dothan, died late Monday night, January 31, 2022, in Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. He was 79.


       Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 3, 2022, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Chad Hixson officiating. Burial will follow in the Haleburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
       Jerry Sumlar was born and reared in Haleburg, son of the late Edward Sumlar and Eneze Cureton Sumlar. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jerry lived in Dothan most of his lifetime and was a member of the Rehobeth Baptist Church. He worked nearly fifty-years as the owner and operator of Dothan Metal Craft as a welder and millwright before retiring in September 2021, due to disability. His greatest legacy was the honor, integrity and values he modeled and passed down to his three sons.  Jerry was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Sumlar, and two brothers, Paryman Sumlar and Bobby Sumlar.


      Surviving relatives include three sons, Jerry Sumlar, Jr. (Anisa), Tumbleton Community; Tommy Sumlar and Ronnie Sumlar, both of Dothan; a sister, Marietta Johnson (Wylie), Florida; two brothers, Gary Sumlar and Edward Sumlar, both of Haleburg; three grandchildren, Brittany LaPointe (Dyllan), Alexandra Sumlar and Boone Sumlar, three great-grandchildren, Emmi LaPointe, Mary Alice LaPointe and Pip LaPointe, several nieces and nephews.


      Serving as active pallbearers will be Bruce Glover, Terrell Glover, Jeff Minder, Danny Watson, Eric Sumlar and Pary Sumlar.
