HEADLAND…Jerry Wayne Gilley, a resident of Headland, died Friday afternoon, October 16, 2020, at his home. He was 76.
Memorial services, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at the Memory Hill Cemetery, Hartford Highway Dothan, with Chaplain Eddie Biss officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the services. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Gilley was a native of Slocomb, son of the late Harlon Gilley and Mary Campbell Gilley. At an early age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served his country during the Vietnam War and later retired with the rank of 1st Sergeant after twenty-eight years’ service. Mr. Gilley earned a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering. After retirement from the military, he owned and operated a heating and air conditioning company in Columbus, Georgia and moved to Headland in 1999. Mr. Gilley was a member of the VFW and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Martin Gilley, and two sons, Neil Gilley and Jeffrey Gilley.
Surviving relatives include a son, Gerald Eugene Gilley (Brenda), Fredericksburg, VA; six step-children, Elizabeth Allison (Justin), Columbus, GA; Robin Retherford, Columbia, AL; Kimberly Stanley (Mike), Dothan; April Hargadon, Cowarts; Timothy Barnes, Atlanta, GA; and Sean Barnes, Enterprise; two brothers, Harvey Gilley, Mobile; and Marlon Gilley, Enterprise; four grandchildren, Michael Gilley, Cody Gilley, Amelia Gilley and Neil Gilley; several step-grandchildren.
