NEWVILLE, AL… Jesse Andrew “Andy” Johnson, a resident of Newville, Alabama, passed away Friday morning, March 3, 2023, at his home. He was 74.


Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 6, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Hugh Kirkland officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Reverend Lisa Stokes Bell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.


Mr. Johnson was born in Houston County, Alabama to the late Jess Edward Johnson and Henrietta Hasty Johnson. He was a 1966 graduate of Newville High School. After high school he served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force, where he served a tour in the Vietnam (1967-1968) where he received the Air Force’s Commendation Medal. He worked as a police officer with the city of Headland and Abbeville, and was police chief for the town of Newville, in the 1980’s. After his policing he pursued a career with Lockheed Support Systems, ending his career in 2012, at Fort Rucker as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic. He also owned and operated AJ’s Bait & Tackle. Andy loved to fish, tell jokes, and Auburn Football.


Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Hank Johnson; and his nephews, Nicholas Johnson and Lance Creel.


Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife, Yvonne Trammell Johnson, his daughter, Kim Windham (Richard); his grandchildren, Amber Windham and Bradley Windham; his great-grandchildren, Hunter Bryant and Lindsey Myers; and a host of extended family and friends.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Bradley Windham, Justin Johnson, Noel Vanlandingham, Eric Blankenship, Steve Watson, Jimmy Singletary, Mark Jones, and Wesley Watson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lawton Ed Armstrong and Will Maddox.
