HEADLAND. . .Jesse Lee Greene, a resident of Headland, Alabama, died early Wednesday morning, March 25, 2015, at his home. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, March 28, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Zion Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o David Teat, 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, Alabama 36373 or to the Wallace Community College Foundation, c/o The Jess Greene Scholarship Fund, 5565 Montgomery Highway, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. Greene was born and reared in East Tennessee, son of the late William H. Greene and Demarith Douglas Greene. He was a graduate of LaFollette High School. Mr. Greene served two tours in Vietnam and retired from the U. S. Marine Corps with rank of Gunnery Sergeant. After serving in the military, he was employed by Michelin Tire Corporation and retired after eighteen years employment. He was a graduate of Troy University where he received a degree in Applied Science. Mr. Greene also retired from Wallace Community College as an Instructor in the Electrical Technology Division. He was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Greene, and three brothers, Bill Greene, Jr., Ray Greene and Bob Greene.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Catherine Sweat Greene, Headland; a daughter, Karen Major (Michael), Piedmont, S.C.; a son, Daniel Greene, Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Patricia Payne (Frank), LaFollette, TN; three grandchildren, Laura Blackham (Eric), Adam Major (Danielle), and Jessica Robbins (Benjamin); two great-grandchildren, Isabella Robbins and Colton Robbins.
