Jesse Edwin Murph, age 75, of Marietta, Georgia, stepped into the gracious throne of Christ on January 31, 2024, at Grady Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.  Jesse is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joni Smith Murph; two sons, Jason Edwin (April Dawn) Murph and John David (Cindy) Murph; one sister, Carolyn Gail Bruce, two grandchildren, Amanda Kelly Murph and Kevin Martin Murph, and several nieces and nephews.

Jesse was born in Brantley, Alabama, to Jesse Glen Murph and Johnnie Lou Murph on December 11, 1948.

He was a proud member of the 1967 Elba High School class.  After graduation, Jesse graduated Phi Kappa Phi with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from Auburn University.  He was a true ‘rocket scientist’ because he loved designing and developing missiles for the US military, working for various NASA subcontractors, primarily Morton Thiokol.  Mostly, he was proud of his family…his sons and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Jesse was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, Kennesaw, GA, where he had just led a team to finish a complete renovation of the sanctuary.  A true passion of Jesse’s was greeting fellow worshipers at New Salem Baptist Church.  He tried to always remember new names and faces that attended each week.  He was also a committed member of a church bible study group of men because he loved studying God’s word.

Visitation for family and friends is Monday, February 5, from 5-7 pm EST at Mayes-Ward Funeral Home in Marietta.

The funeral will be held at New Salem Baptist Church, Kennesaw, GA, on Tuesday, February 6, at 11 am EST.  The burial with a graveside service will be held in his hometown of Elba, Alabama, in Evergreen Cemetery on Wednesday, February 7, at 1 pm CST.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the missionary work at Nong Thaen Church Thailand (Pongpas) be made via www.NewSalem.org/give

John 14:6 “Jesus answered “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Hayes Funeral Home of Elba, Alabama, is in charge of the local arrangements.
