ABBEVILLE. . .Jessie Nolen Perry, a resident of Abbeville, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her home. She was 96.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Teddy Ward and Pastor Joel Laseter officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, near Headland. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310 or Gentiva Hospice, 2431 West Main Street, Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mrs. Perry was born in Canoe, Alabama and was reared in Escambia County, Florida, near Pensacola. She attended Pensacola High School and was a graduate of Hattiesburg, Mississippi School of Cosmetology. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Nolen and Flora Holland Nolen. Mrs. Perry moved to Abbeville in 1965. She also lived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Malone, New York before returning to Abbeville in 1988. While living in New York, Mrs. Perry served with her husband on the North American Mission Board as a Home Missionary in Northeastern New York state and served as W.M.U. Director for the Adirondack Association. She was active in children’s and youth camps and was a teacher for religious education during the school year. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Abbeville where she was active in the W.M.U., sang in the church choir and taught Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Perry served at the Judson Baptist Association Thrift Store. She also served in the Judson Association leading Vacation Bible School and Missions Friends Clinic. Reverend and Mrs. Perry opened their home to foster children. Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend James Edward Perry, sons-in-law, Robert McCoy and James Edwards, and all her sisters and brothers.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Dianne Perry McCoy Edwards, grandchildren, Karla Calhoun, Bobby McCoy (Karmen), Darron McCoy and Jess McCoy (Amber); great-grandchildren, Jenna Calhoun, Travis Calhoun (Savannah), Mallory Harville (Stephanie), Faith McCoy (Cole Fairley), Jami McCoy, Landon McCoy, Asher McCoy, Cohen McCoy and Wells McCoy; great-great-grandchildren, Hadley Barnes, Bentley Calhoun, and Annabelle Calhoun; numerous extended family.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby McCoy, Jess McCoy, Landon McCoy, Travis Calhoun, Craig Singletary and Aaron Perry.
The family would like to personally thank Jimmy and Lorene Money for being her go to ride to take Mrs. Perry to church every time the doors were opened. Also, a thank you to Gentiva Hospice, caregivers, Vickie Barnes, Mary Ann Corder, Shirley Whitehead and Myrandall Busse for the loving care and kindness given to Mrs. Perry during her illness.
