Jessie William Hicks, 95, a life-long resident of Ashford passed away, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Westside Terrace following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2024, at Ashford City Cemetery with Reverend Bill Hand officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, P.O. Box 9551, Dothan, AL 36304.
Jessie was born November 16, 1928, in Houston County to the late William Andrew & Viola (Forrester) Hicks. He attended Ashford High School and began driving for Summerford Truck Line in 1948 at the age of 20, up until his retirement in 2007. Jessie was an outdoorsman enjoying, camping, fishing, and hunting quail. His devotion for his grandson Jeffrey was evident, often not seeing one without the other. He was a member of Watermark Church (formerly First Baptist Church of Ashford).
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eural Hicks; and a sister, Odell (Hicks) Wells.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Marley Hicks; a son, Danny Hicks (Rhonda) of Ashford; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey Hicks of Ashford, Kirk Hicks of Dothan, and John David Green (Morgan) of Vestavia Hills; a great-grandchild, Marleigh Green; 4 nephews, Steve Hicks (Joan) of Ashford, Michael Hicks (Monica) of Ashford, Chris Hicks (Janet) of Coffee Springs, and Hayden Hicks of Ashford.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Westside Terrace and Gentiva Hospice, for the compassion and care shown to their loved one during this time.
