Jester “Bill” Driskell, a resident of Wicksburg, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his residence, following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church, Wicksburg. Ministers Buddy Hood and Mark Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home of Hartford.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL. 35236.
Mr. Driskell was born in Dale County on November 21, 1918 the son of the late Malcolm Jester and Beatrice Jones Driskell. He moved to Houston County at an early age and attended school in the old Stembridge School House. He joined the Army in 1941 and served in the European theater under General Omar Bradley. Following his discharge in 1945, he farmed as his life’s work. He served as a school board trustee for the Wicksburg School for many years and was an active member and deacon at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.
Mr. Driskell is pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Holland Driskell; his parents; three brothers, Chester, Huey, and Brack Driskell; a sister, Vickie Holland.
Survivors include two sisters, Crona Grace and Lizzie Hubbard of Wicksburg; two sons, Connel (Kay) Driskell and Stacy Driskell; a daughter, Debra (Bill) Owen, all of Wicksburg; six grandchildren, Ronnie (Michelle) Driskell, Gene Driskell of Wicksburg, Kayce (Christopher) Carey of Kennesaw, GA, Kristen Owen of Niceville, FL., Tracy (Diana) Driskell of Taylor, and Natalie (Lynn) Daughtry of Wicksburg; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Miriam Ryland of Hartford; many nieces and nephews.
