ABBEVILLE. . .Jewel Wesson Hardwick, a resident of Abbeville, died Monday night, April 5, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. She was 86.
Graveside services for family and close friends will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, April 9, 2021, in the Adoniram Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Otis Derrah and Matt Gilbert officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Adoniram Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Danny Tye, 918 County Road 28, Abbeville, AL 36310 or the 4-H Clubs of the Henry County Extension System, 101 Doswell Street, No. A, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Hardwick was born in Sylacauga and was reared in Fayetteville, Alabama, daughter of the late Fred Edgar Wesson and Daisy Mae Stonecypher Wesson. She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and attended the University of Montevallo. Mrs. Hardwick later received a B. S. Degree in Education from Auburn University. After moving to Abbeville in 1956, she met and married the love of her life, Clanton. Mrs. Hardwick retired in 1994 as a County Extension Agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in Henry County after thirty-two years. During her employment, she truly enjoyed working with the youth and the women in the county. Mrs. Hardwick was a member of the Matrons Club and the Abbeville Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clanton Hardwick, a son, Christopher Clanton Hardwick, two sisters, Loretta Wesson and Gertrude Wesson, and three brothers, Bloise Wesson, Edward Wesson and Clifton Wesson.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Katrina Blount (Jerry), Abbeville; Vivian Miller (Michael), Opelika; and Elizabeth Garrett (Ron), The Woodlands, Texas; a sister, Virginia Carter (Don), Wetumpka, AL; a brother, Dudley Wesson (Margaret), Millbrook, AL; seven grandchildren, Lindsey Smith, Audrey Bawcum, John-Michael Cook, Katie Sizemore (Rick), Annabeth Kierspe (Chase), Thomas Garrett, III and Rosemary Garrett; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Bawcum , Carter Sizemore, Sadie Grace Kiersepe and Wesley Kierspe; a special lifelong friend, Rossie Money.
