Jimmy Baker, a beacon of light and wisdom, passed away on December 28, 2023, after an extended illness, in the comfort of his home in Dothan, Alabama. Born on November 27, 1936, Jimmy's journey through life was marked by his intelligence, faith, and an ever-present warmth that drew people to him.

Jimmy's life was a testament to love and dedication. He was married to his beloved wife, Lorine Baker, for 65 years, a union that began on August 16, 1958, and was blessed with a daughter, Pam McCoy. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Professionally, Jimmy dedicated over 30 years to GTE, where he was respected for his sharp intellect and problem-solving skills. His work ethic was unparalleled, and even after retirement, he found joy in working with his favorite grandson, Jason, for over 15 years.

Jimmy's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A devout Christian and a Deacon at Grandview Baptist Church, he lived his faith every day. An avid Alabama Football fan, he rarely missed a game and often shared this enthusiasm with his family and friends. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for camping, going to the mountains, and seeking treasures at yard sales and thrift stores.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Hermus Baker, stepmother, Thula Baker, brother, Jerry Baker, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Baker.

He is survived by a loving family, including his wife, Lorine Baker; daughter, Pam McCoy (Rodney); grandson, Jason McCoy (Tiffany); great-grandson, Hudson Baker McCoy; sister, Anne Smith; brother, Lynn Baker; brother-in-law, David Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Baker will be remembered as an intelligent and faith-filled man who never met a stranger and lived his life with purpose and kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Grimes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 -10:00am Saturday.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Jimmy’s honor, to the Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund.
