Mr. Jimmy Earl Smith of Hartford, Alabama passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at his residence. He was 77 years old.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 3 P.M. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2 P.M.
Mr. Smith was born on February 01, 1943 in Geneva Co, AL to the late Charlie Hicks and Myrtice Lorraine Sawyer Smith. He retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service. He retired from Ft. Rucker as an aircraft mechanic. After retirement, Jimmy spent many hours restoring classic cars and trucks and going to car races. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three stepdaughters, Wanda Slaughter, Sandra Alred and Lessie McGowan and a grandson, Robert Bishop.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Jimmie Lois Creel Smith of Hartford; three sons, Kevin Smith (Tiyen) of FL, Dennis Smith (Nikki) of Bellwood, Jonathan Smith (Melissa) of Ponce de Leon, FL; two step-daughters, Teresa Mitchell (Scott) of Westville, FL and Brittany Miller (Scott) of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Charles “Foley” Smith of Slocomb and Mike Smith (Brandi) of Dothan; five sisters, Sandra Smith of Slocomb, Brenda Key (Dennis) of Hartford, Carol Windham (Randy) of Headland, Barbara Porterfield (Dennis) and Sharon McCall (Chuck) both of Dothan, 23 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews; one special nephew, Ricky Smith and one special niece, Jennifer Fulford both of Slocomb, three dog-babies he dearly loved, Daisy, Little Bit and Sandy; a very special friend and mother of his sons, Wanda Grant and a special uncle, Franklin Peacock.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Smith, Dennis Key, Randy Windham, Colby Hutto, Scott Mitchell and Richard Peaks.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Covenant Hospice for their devoted love and care they provided for Mr. Smith.
