Mr. Jimmy Frank Odom, a resident of Donalsonville, GA, passed away early Friday morning, January 6, 2017, in the Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. He was 74.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 3:00 PM (EST) Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Lake Seminole Baptist Church with Dr. David Pace and Bro. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Lawn Gardens of Memory in Blakely, GA. Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA is directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM (EST) and continuing until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Seminole Baptist Church, 2990 Burke Road, Donalsonville, GA 39845.
Mr. Odom was born September 11, 1942 in Houston County, Alabama to the late Odell Odom and Lucy Agnes Chandler. He was a 1960 graduate of Early County High School in Blakely, Georgia. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Odom retired from Georgia Pacific Corporation in 2004 as a pulp mill operator after 41 years of service. He was a third generation owner of Odom’s Grocery in Cedar Springs, Georgia for many years. Mr. Odom was a member of Lake Seminole Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing near his home on Lake Seminole.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Odom was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rod Allums.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marilyn (Libby) Glover Odom; three daughters, Sherry Odom Gamble (Scott) and Amy Odom Barnett all of Dothan, AL; Dana Odom Ferguson (Michael) of Hartselle, AL; a step-son, Michael Ochat of Crawfordville, FL; a sister, Mary Allums of Cedar Springs, GA; four brothers, John Odom (Leilann) of Blakely, GA; Robert Earl Odom (Lois) of Shellman, GA; Harry Odom (Anita) and Tommy Odom (Jeanie) all of Cedar Springs, GA; five grandchildren, Ashlyn Gamble, Mikayla Ferguson, Brody Barnett, Anna Ferguson and Zachary Gamble; a step-grandson, Cody Ochat; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Allums, Bobby Glover, Ellis Odom, Tuddy Alday, Niles Jones, Tommy Joiner and Bill Treadway
