Obituary: Jimmy Fred Strickland
Mr. Jimmy Fred Strickland passed away to Glory on Friday, May 3, 2024. He was 77 years old.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Karl Hudson officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. He will lie in state at the church from 1pm until service time. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 4pm until 6pm.
Jimmy was born December 7, 1946 in Alabama to the late Fred and Willie Pearl McIntosh Strickland. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Coffee County. The Wesley Chapel Community was his home until 1955 when his family moved to the Battens Crossroads Community, “Poverty Lane”, where they would live for 69 years. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church as well as a 25 year member of the Alabama National Guard where he gained his master welding skills. He worked for Garwood Industries for eleven years and then began a sawmill operation. He owned and operated Strickland Logging for over 35 years while also raising a family, cattle, and poultry with his father and his son. Jimmy enjoyed working and cutting hay even up until his last week. He loved his wife of 58 years and was very proud of his children, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, one infant daughter, son-in-law, Robert Vasbinder, brother-in-law, W.D. Wilburn all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Linda Davis Strickland; daughter, Laura Warren (Glen); son, Todd Strickland (Rhonda); five granddaughters: Mindy Lowery (Drake), Michelle Watkins (Doug), Caylex Strickland, Julie Strickland, Suzie Strickland; three great-grandchildren: Linleigh Watkins, Hayes Watkins, Chloe Lowery; sisters, Carolyn Wilburn, Joyce Reynolds (Jerrell), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be especially missed by his special friends of the “Old Man Breakfast Club” at the Good to Go.
