Jimmy Melton Griffin, 80, of Blakely passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday, March 15, 2021.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19, in Pine Lawn Gardens Cemetery with Dr. Alex Howell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Jimmy was born in Vienna, GA on September 1, 1940 to the late Willie Alvin and Mildred Bragg Griffin. After graduating from Vienna High School and serving our country in the United States Navy, Jimmy began his career with the GA Federal-State Shipping Point Inspection Service. He retired in 1999 as the state supervisor after thirty-seven years. Jimmy was an avid reader and kept up with the news and current events. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was always ready for a Biloxi trip where he enjoyed socializing. He was also a Shriner and always looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Mary Elizabeth Hellner Griffin, and a brother, Tommy Griffin.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Michael A. Griffin and wife Stacy of Dothan; his daughter, Pamela A. Hinson and husband Jeffrey of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Haley Jordan and husband Chad, Jacob Hinson, Keely Griffin, and Fallyn Griffin; his longtime companion, Retha Cherry of Dothan; numerous extended family members, especially cousin Wallace Moye, and his longtime caregiver, Floris Brooks.
