A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with H. N. Turner officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am- 11 am.

Jimmy was born in Martin County, North Carolina to the late Clennis Morris Sr. and Mary Staton Morris. He obtained his formal education in the public schools there. In 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army which he served and remained there for 24 years, raising to the rank of Sgt. 1st class. His tours included Vietnam and Desert Storm. After his retirement from the Military, he moved to Ozark, AL where he was employed at AutoZone as a Store Manager. He enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises, and being with his family. He is well known for being a jokester. Going fishing was a favorite pastime, as well as going to any and all sporting events, especially football. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Clennis Morris, Sr. and Mary Staton Morris and by his siblings, Katie Mae Morris, Clennis Morris Jr., and James Anthony Morris.

Jimmy enjoyed life and had a great love for his children. From his union with Mary Jones Morris, they had two sons, Roman and Darius, who he loved and respected so much. In 1986, he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Debra Smiley. They were together for 36 years. From this union, they had two children, Martika and Jimmier, who he was so proud to be their father.

Many are left to rejoice in his memory and cherish his homegoing: a loving and devoted wife of 22 years Debra Smiley Morris; his 3 sons Roman, Darius, Jimmier and; his daughter Martika. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Stephon Morris, De’Nae Morris, and Kaleb Morris and 2 great grandchildren, Jonathan Lawson and Taelynn Kay; as well as 4 godchildren, Kayla Smith, Brayden Bivins, Sherrita Blackmon, and Terrence Burroughs. Jimmy is also survived by 1 sister Mary Morris-Bradley (Byron) of Washington, DC and Sister-in-laws Dale Morris (late Clennis Morris Jr.) of Suffolk, VA, Dorothy Morris (late James Morris) of Washington D.C; and an abundance of other loving family members, including nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Jimmy Morris was a great and wise man who was always willing to offer advice and help others. He was a bright shining light in this world, and we take solace in the fact that he will live in our hearts and memories until we see him again in our fathers Kingdom.
