Date of Service: Jimmy Earl Newton, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at his residence. He was 78.


Location: Sunset Funeral Home Chapel







Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, November 11, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2 pm.


Jimmy was born on April 24, 1941 in Taylor, Alabama and lived in Taylor most of his life. He worked on foreign cars as a certified mechanic for several years before his retirement. Jimmy loved to refurbish old tractors and engines, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing every chance he got. He was a NASCAR racing fan and loved watching Alabama football.


Survivors include his sons, David Blackmon and Bill Sherman; his daughters, Peggy Serna and Wavie Griffin; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Bobby Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
