MIDLAND CITY…Joan Ellison Prophitt, a resident of Midland City, died Thursday morning, September 29, 2016, at her home. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 2, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mike Griggs and Reverend Henry Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday and from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Mrs. Prophitt was born and reared in Headland, daughter of the late James Washington Ellison and Daisy Bell Peterson Ellison. She lived in various locations in the U.S. and Germany while her husband served in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Prophitt moved to Midland City in 1968. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and a former member of the Napier Baptist Church where she was a member of the W.M. U., enjoyed singing in the choir, and taught the children’s church. Mrs. Prophitt retired from the Dale County Board of Education as a school bus driver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Eugene Prophitt (CWO3, Retired, U.S. Army) and also retired U. S. Postal Service, and a brother, Billy Ray Ellison.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Scarlet Ann McDaniel (Warde), Ozark; Ronda Jean Glover (Brett), Midland City; four sisters, Frances Bailey, Dothan; Sarah Paramore, Grimes; Monette Crowder, Saraland, AL; Dr. Charlotte Kirkland Williams (Nolan), Newton; three brothers, Larry Ellison (Sue), Wicksburg; Danny Ellison (Laurada), Headland; Jerry Don Ellison, Hoschton, GA; three grandchildren, Candace McDaniel (Kyle Smith); Vince Seagers; Derrik Seagers (Ashlee); two great-grandchildren, Jordan Scott Seagers; Henry Bryce Seagers; and one on the way, Kylen Lauren Smith.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Ellison, Scottie Ellison, Clay Ellison, Michael Ellison, Barkley Kirkland, Cleve Kirkland and Derrik Seagers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to First Choice Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Prophitt during her illness.
