Joanne Kohnen Norby, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at her residence. She was 92.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Reverend Lynn S. Nesbitt officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the family residence following the service.
Flowers are being accepted.
Mrs. Norby was born September 17, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Albert and Stella Kohnen and lived the early years of her life there. She was a professional ice skater eventually skating in the ice capades. She also taught ice skating in Hennipen County, Minnesota. In earlier years she was trained and employed as an X-Ray technician. She and her family resided in Florida for several years before moving to Dothan in 1964. She along with her husband, owned and operated Save-A-Minit Food Stores in the Wiregrass area for over 25 years. Mrs. Norby was a pianist, organist, and a very talented artist. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Mrs. Norby was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Donald Curtis Norby.
Survivors include three children, Mary J. Baltikauski (James) of Hartford, Dr. Donald T. Norby of Anniston (Nancy) and Barbara Norby Bauer (William) of Albertville; five grandchildren, William Norby Bauer (Jennifer), Cynthia Bauer Darby (Thomas), Anna Marie Swenson (Kyle), Paige B. Norby and Alison T. Norby; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Bauer, Aubrey Bauer, Ellie Swenson and Charlie Swenson. Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
