JOCEL MICHAEL TOWNS
COLUMBIA…Jocel Michael (Mike) Towns, a resident of Columbia, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at his home. He was 51.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2013, in the New Freedom Church, in Webb, with Pastors Larry and Marilyn Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Freedom Church Special Mission Project, P.O. Box 119, Webb, AL 36376.
Mike Towns was born in Live Oak, Florida, and was reared in Kinsey, Alabama, son of the late Jocel Edward Towns and Mary Will Johnson Towns. He was a 1980 graduate of the Houston County High School in Columbia. Mike moved to the Sigma Community, near Columbia, in 2003. He was employed by the Southern Nuclear Operating Company of Birmingham as an Instrument Serviceman Nuclear at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, near Columbia. Mike was an active member of the New Freedom Church and had a heart for mission work.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Lisa Hagler Towns, Columbia; three sons, Joshua Micah Towns and wife, Katie Hinson Towns, Ashford; Caleb Michael Towns and wife, Jordan May Towns, Webb; and Matthew David Towns, Columbia; a sister, Joanne Towns Kirkland and husband, Billy Ray Kirkland, Newville; a brother, Bill Towns and wife, Eileen Towns, Roswell, GA; grandchildren on the way, Joseph Parker Towns and Emma Claire Towns; three nieces, Michelle Kirkland Smith and husband, Jackie; Heather Towns Jackson, and Brooke Hagler; three nephews, Jason Kirkland, Jonathan Kirkland and wife, Krystal; and Bill Towns and wife, Kristine; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vinson and Inez Hagler, Kinsey; brother-in-law, Norman Hagler and wife, Kendra, Headland.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Adam Bass, David Richardson, Carroll Gordon, Michael Douglas, Bo Newberry, Mark Bristow, Jeff Strowd, and Neil Moody.
