Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Westgate Church of Christ with Minister Chris Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at Westgate Church of Christ from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.








Joe Mac Walden, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 80 years old.

Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at Westgate Church of Christ from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.


Joe was born on November 15, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Troy Lee and Bonnie Bowers Walden. Joe resided in Homestead, Florida prior to moving to Dothan in 1974. He worked at Farley Nuclear Plant from 1974-2010. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy University. He was also the co-owner of F & J Specialty Products. Joe was an avid outdoorsman but especially loved to fish. He was a member of the Dothan Bass Masters and fished in many area tournaments. He enjoyed old cars and traveled extensively around the Wiregrass to car shows. He was a lifelong avid Troy University and University of Alabama fan. Roll Tide! He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in July 1969. Joe was a member of Westgate Church of Christ, where he served as Deacon of Benevolence and the Jail and Prison Ministry. He also served as assistant chaplain at the Houston County Jail.


Survivors include his wife, Norma Craig Walden; his sons, Craig (April) Walden and Christopher Walden; his daughter, Alison Walden Hall, Wes Hall; his four grandchildren, Briggs Hall, Cooper Hall, Reid Walden, and Knox Hall; and his twin sister, Wanda Walden Lowe and children.


The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the Respite Care program at First United Methodist Church, Dayspring Hospice and for the caregivers from Precious Home Care for the compassion and care shown to them during their time of need.
