Joe Reynolds Miller, 71, of Dothan passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at his residence.


Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Van Clack officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mary Beth Miller Heart Fund, c/o Friend Bank, 3105 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL, 36303.


Joe was born February 17, 1941 to Ruth and Macon Miller in Elba, AL. His father was called into the ministry and they moved to New Orleans, LA for seminary school. They moved to Midland City where he finished high school and played football. Following high school he attended the University of Alabama and also joined the Army National Guard. Most of Joe’s working career was as a supervisor/dispatcher for various trucking companies in the Dothan area. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, and faithful member. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Macon Miller, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Miller with whom he loved and respected and enjoyed staying with during the summer, his sister Josephine Gulledge and her husband Jerry Gulledge.


Survivors include his wife of 49 years Eleanor (Skipper) Miller of Dothan; his sons, Mark (Stacee) Miller of Fultondale, AL, and Joe Derek Miller of Dothan; grandchildren, Mary Beth Miller and Macon W. Miller; several nieces and nephews also survive.


Joe was very proud of the fact the he was able to help take care of his grandson Macon and his grand-daughter Mary Beth following her heart surgery for 3 years until his recent illness. She dearly loved her Papa Joe.


Serving as pallbearers will be Macon Miller, Carl Floyd, Shelley Goocher, Ken Hall, Jackie Ryals, and Doug Hadley. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ken Hall Sunday School Class and members of Heritage Baptist Church.
