Johanna Struse Waddill (97) of 1010 Roy Parker Road, Ozark died January 29, 2016.
She was born July 26, 1918 in Poland to German parents, Paul and Martha Struse. In the mists of World War II before the Russians attacked Lodz, her family escaped to Berlin and later moved to Austria. During the escape Johanna’s baby daughter died in her arms.
After the war she married Army Sgt. Roland A. Waddill, Jr. She entered America on July 9, 1956 as a new bride and soon obtained citizenship. In 1966 SGM Waddill was stationed at Fort Rucker where he later retired and subsequently predeceased his wife in 1975. Johanna was a devoted member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ozark, and was formerly employed at the Fort Rucker Officer’s Club and Ozark Country Club.
She is survived by three nephews, Roland, Olaf and Rolf Brauer who reside with their families around Straubing and Munich, Germany, and many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and good friends.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. February 6, 2016 at the Prince of Peace, viewing one hour before service, burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
