John B. Smith, 74, of Taylor, passed away with his family at his side on 22 Jan 2014 at SAMC.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, Jan 25, 2014, at Taylor Assembly of God Church with Reverend Charles Littlefield and Pastor Andy Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Smith was born in Pensacola, FL, to the late Vera Betterton and James Smith on Feb 27, 1939. He married Dorothy Peterman on Dec 29, 1959, in Dothan. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of honorable service and later retired from the General Electric Company.

Mr. Smith was a family man who loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Smith; his nine children, Joan (Ron) Trawick, Debra Shelley, Pamela Jones, Sherry Ivey, Dana (Stephen) Mann, Krystal (Chad) Trammell, Gregory (Missy) Shelley, Katie Shelley, and Johnathon Shelley; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, and 4 sisters.

The family of Mr. Smith wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his doctors and the CCU nurses at SAMC, and especially to our church family at Taylor Assembly of God.
