John Barry Feranda, 80, a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.


A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mr. Feranda’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.


Mr. Feranda was born October 26, 1940 in Biloxi, Mississippi. A saxophone legend, he was well known from the Rockin Rebels Rock Band in Biloxi.  Known by many as “Bear-Bear”, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Feranda was a lifetime Elk member.


He is predeceased by his parents, Vincent Peter Feranda, Sr. and Katherine Grace Feranda, a daughter, Alice Grace “Alli” Feranda and three brothers.


He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Tammy Feranda of Dothan; a son, Michael Feranda of Denton, Texas; daughters, Maria Hamilton (Tom) of Biloxi, MS and Vickylynn Hall (Ken) of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren, Olivella Feranda, April Croncich, Amanda White, Andrew Higginbotham, Victoria McClure (Kolby), Christian Lee Hall and Chance Dylan Hall; great grandchildren, Nicholas and Allie Gruich, Jaylen White, Blakli Lane McClure and Baby Hall “on the way”; a sister, Jean Atkinson; several nieces and nephews including, Christina Marie “Honeygirl” Adams (Caleb), Ashley Elizabeth Hamblin (John), Lauryn Bagley (Latham) and Anna Grace Adams; and a special fur baby, “Gabby”.
