A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 12pm from the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with military honors to follow. The family will receive friends at 11am until the service begins at 12pm.








John David Morrow, known affectionately to friends and family as “Big John”; was a beacon of kindness and selflessness throughout his 80 years of life. Born on August 7, 1944, John passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in Dothan, Alabama. All who knew him will miss his warm presence and generous spirit.


His faith, deep love, and commitment to his family characterized John’s life. He leaves behind his loving wife of 11 years, Evie Morrow, with whom he shared a beautiful life since meeting in San Destin, Florida. His legacy continues through his children, Bryan Morrow (Julie), Jennifer Morrow, Chris Walker (Megan), and Monica Walker Giordano (Chuck); and cherished grandchildren, Tucker Morrow (Grace), Chase Morrow, Jack Morrow, William Walker, Aaron Walker, Lillian Walker, Lucy Wolverton, and Anna Wolverton. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Morrow, his parents, Charles and Nancy Morrow, and his siblings, Charles Morrow and May Moseley.


John’s early years were spent in Chicago, where he was born and raised as a first-generation American, with his family having roots in Scotland. Professionally, John was a man of dedication and integrity. He spent 35 years as a commercial lending executive with Associates Corporation, where his colleagues respected him for being tough but fair. His work ethic and integrity were unparalleled, and he was a trusted mentor to many. He was proud to show his patriotism by serving in the Army Reserves and always flying an American flag at his home


John was immensely supportive, always putting the needs of others before his own, and his unwavering presence provided a foundation of strength for his family. He was known for his outgoing nature and larger-than-life personality, which made him a cherished figure to everyone he met.


John’s life was also about the simple joys that brought him happiness. He was an avid golfer, spending many joyful hours on the greens, relishing the game he loved. His enthusiasm for Tennessee football was infectious, and he often cheered on his favorite team, sharing this pastime with friends and family.


Throughout his life, John lived in more than 20 cities across the U.S. and U.K. After meeting and marrying Evie and joining her family, they shared a beautiful life together, making many close friendships and enjoying many travels, including Jerusalem, Israel, and Paul’s journey throughout the Mediterranean. In 2021, they moved to Dothan, quickly becoming an integral part of thecommunity.


John’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment, which were his guiding lights. He was active in the Bethlehem Baptist Church community, finding great comfort and joy in its teachings. To share one of John’s fathers; favorite verses from Proverbs: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
