ABBEVILLE. . .John E. Turner, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday night, October 5, 2014, at his home. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Quincey and Reverend Brandon Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Henry Reynolds, 3945 County Road 40, Newville, AL 36353.
Mr. Turner was born and reared in the Edwin Community of Henry County, son of the late James Oscar (Jim) Turner and Florence Free Turner. He lived in Abbeville all his adult lifetime. Mr. Turner was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was formerly employed by the Henry County Road & Bridge Department and Franklin Hardwood. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Curry, Mae Dell Williamson, and Eunice Makatura, and a brother, Marvin Turner.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Shirley Crowley (Tab), and Sheila Money (George), all of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, Travis Crowley (Amy), Thad Crowley, Joshua Brooks (Melanie), Kimberly Crowley, Jessica Brooks (Vince), Nicholas Money (Nicolle), and Jason Money; nine great-grandchildren, Caroline Crowley, Brooke Bolt, Dawson Johnson, Jackson Johnson, Rayce Brooks, Chesli Crowley, Eli Money, Daisy Kate Crowley, and Ava Crowley.
