FRUITLAND PARK, FL . . .John Edward Turner, a resident of Fruitland Park, Florida, formerly of Abbeville, Alabama, died early Wednesday afternoon, December 28, 2011, at his home. He was 62.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 30, 2011, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel, Abbeville, Alabama, with Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.


            Mr. Turner was born and reared in Lawrenceville, Alabama and lived in Henry County most of his lifetime before moving to Fruitland Park in 1988. He served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Mr. Turner was formerly employed by Talley Wood Products in Leesburg, FL in the wood industry and also Lewis & Lewis and Sons of Coleman, FL. He was a member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Abbeville. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, James Arby (Bud) Turner and Helen Stanley Turner, his step-mother, Catherine Turner and a brother, Robert Turner.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Karen Strickland Turner; two sons, Jeremy Edward Turner and wife, Shannon; John Ashley Turner and wife, Kindra, all of Fruitland Park, FL; his special adopted children, Keeley Nagle, Littlestown, PA and Jamie McCurdy, Okahumpka, FL; eight grandchildren, Kymber Turner, Jaden Turner, Ashlyn Turner, Charlie Ben Turner, Kasi Sanford, Brittany and Kristen Sanford and Madison Schuh; seven sisters, Juanita Grantham, Baker Hill, AL; Willie Nell Cordell, Texasville, AL; Martha Blankenship and husband, Jack, Abbeville; Barbara Cochran and husband, Johnny, Abbeville; Linda Bradley and husband, Bobby, Abbeville; Kathreen Turner and Gloria Jean Faircloth both of Crawfordville, FL; a brother, James Earl Turner and wife, Martha, Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Turner, Abbeville; numerous nieces and nephews.
