ABBEVILLE. . .John Homer Blankenship, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. He was 64.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 25, 2016, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Brother Gene White and Brother Don Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
Homer Blankenship was a lifelong resident of the Abbeville area, son of the late Acy Blankenship and Inez Cook Blankenship. He was member of the Good Tidings Assembly of God Church. Homer was formerly employed for many years by American Buildings of Eufaula. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Blankenship, Ronnie Blankenship, Lonnie Blankenship and Bud Blankenship, and two sisters, Ruth Sauls and Mary Alice Woods.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Minnie Shirley Blankenship; daughters Doven Bouyer (Claude), Abbeville; and Lisa Hymel, Florida ; a son, Michael Blankenship (Wendy Dixon), Abbeville; two sisters, Martha “Sally” Sands, Phenix City; and Lillian Watson (Jeff), Skipperville; three brothers, Charles Blankenship (Barbara), Seattle, WA; William Blankenship (Elizabeth), Headland; and Willie Ray Blankenship (Matha), Seale, AL; numerous nieces and nephews including Jennifer Blankenship Horsley “Hard Head”.
