John William Chambers, Jr. of Enterprise, AL passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his home after a long extended illness. He was 86.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until 1:40 PM.
Mr. Chambers was born in rural Henry County Alabama, son of the late John William Chambers and Lilla Mae Woolf Chambers. He grew up on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. After graduating from Abbeville High School, he entered the United States Army. He returned home from duty overseas and married his wife of 64 years, Sarah. After he was discharged from the United States Army, they settled in Enterprise, Alabama and raised two sons, Michael and Loren. He worked for Paschal’s Dairy and Sunbeam Bread (Flower’s Baking Company) where he worked for over 30 years and retired. He was fondly known as John, the Breadman throughout the Wiregrass area. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise, Alabama.
Mr. Chambers is preceded in death by four siblings, Thomas Wesley Chambers, Mary Elizabeth Beasley Chambers, Eddie Lamar Chambers and Donnie Gene Chambers.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Annette Lolley Chambers; two sons, Michael Todd Chambers (Michele) and Loren William Chambers (Kristina); two sisters, Lillian Nadine Burley (John) and Glenda Faye Bond (Rick); four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
