Johnnie Faye Avant, 83, of Indian Springs Village, Alabama, and former resident of Kinston, Alabama, passed away on April 15, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at the First Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Donald Gainey and Rev. James T. Davis officiating, and Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends in the church, beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Free Will Baptist Church of Samson, the Alabama Kidney Foundation, or the Alabama Alzheimer’s Association.
Johnnie Faye was born in Geneva County on November 5, 1937, to the late Drayfus L. Williams and Lucy Jay Williams. Mrs. Avant was employed for many years with Samson Banking Company and Owens King Insurance. Johnnie Faye enjoyed playing the piano and shopping for antiques. She also loved cooking a good meal for a house full of family and friends. She was a woman of strong faith and was a lifelong member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Samson.
Mrs. Avant was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alvie L. Avant, and one brother Mr. Billy Ray Williams, (Peggy).
She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Avant Ohnich, son-in-law, Robert E. Ohnich, Jr., one grandson, Robert E. Ohnich, III (Trey), one brother, Ronald T. Williams (Jonnie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Homewatch CareGivers, specifically Mary Doss and Kala Knox, for the kindness and compassion shown as they cared for Mrs. Avant.
