OZARK. . .Johnnie Hunter Perry Thomas passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 6, 2019. She was taken care of by her children and grandchildren in recent years, living near Ozark, Alabama. She was 92.


     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 9, 2019, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Tim Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunter Family Cemetery, near Columbia. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


     Mrs. Thomas was born December 29, 1926, in Houston County, near the Hunter Crossroads Community, daughter of the late Elmer Lee Hunter and Abbie Harris Hunter. She moved to east Tennessee with her husband where she lived from 1946 until 1962 when she returned to Columbia. Mrs. Thomas formerly lived in Eufaula before moving to Ozark in 2004. She was retired from WestPoint Steven in Abbeville after twenty-two years employment. Mrs. Thomas was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1956 and was active in the congregation until she retired from WestPoint Stevens. At this time, she was engaged in full time Ministry of Jehovah’s Witnesses until her health prevented her from active ministry. She was preceded in death by her former husband and the father of her children, Jesse Perry. Mrs. Thomas was also preceded in death by her second husband, Lewey A. Thomas, a son, Dennis Perry, a grandson, Travis Earl Perry, a sister, Margaret Perry and two brothers, Bobby Lee Hunter and Henry Durwood Hunter.


     Surviving relatives include three sons, James A. Perry (Ellen), Maynardville, TN; Larry Perry (Debra), Ozark; and Robert E. Perry (Jane), Columbia; a sister, Elmarie Moffitt, Columbus, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren.


     Serving as active pallbearers will be Robert Perry, Morgan Perry, Jerald Perry, Joel Perry, Wayne Perry and Vincent Perry.
