HEADLAND. . .Johnnie Ruth Oates Taylor, a resident of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, died early Thursday morning, June 2, 2022, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022, in the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Arnold and Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church, c/o David Teat, 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, AL 36373.
Johnnie Ruth Taylor was a lifelong resident of the Tumbleton Community, daughter of the late John Harper Oates and Nellie Ruth Thomas Oates. She was a graduate of Headland High School and received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and also her Masters Degree from Troy University. Johnnie Ruth was retired as an Elementary School Teacher from the Dothan City School System. After retirement, she was employed by the CDC in Headland. Johnnie Ruth was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Arnold and two brothers, Ralph Oates and Ed Oates.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jena Taylor Wallace, Tumbleton Community; a grandson, Jeremy Wallace (Shannon), two great-grandchildren, Tristan Wallace and Rowan Wallace, and other family members.
